Ask women studying engineering at Georgia Tech, and they’ll tell you Joe Brown has made a positive impact on their lives. He won the most votes in an annual survey of female College of Engineering students, earning him the Women in Engineering Teaching Excellence Award for 2017.
Environmental engineering senior Hannah Greenwald has earned the highest honor from the Georgia Tech College of Engineering, the Davidson Family Tau Beta Pi Senior Engineering Cup. The award recognizes academic excellence, leadership and service, and it goes to only one graduating senior each year.
Georgia Tech’s scientific and engineering honor society has recognized Despina Tsementzi’s doctoral dissertation as one of the best of the year. Tsementzi, who finished her Ph.D. in the fall, has won the Sigma Xi Best Ph.D. Dissertation award for 2017. She’s one of only 10 students across campus to earn the distinction.
For the second time in three years, students have rated Susan Burns one of the best teachers at Georgia Tech. As a result, Burns will receive the Class of 1940 Course Survey Teaching Effectiveness Award.
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering recognized excellence in research, teaching and staff support at the School’s annual awards ceremony Nov. 14. Karen and John Huff School Chair Reginald DesRoches handed out 17 awards to students, faculty and staff along with Ted Russell, chair of the School’s awards committee.
