Glaucio Paulino is one of four new members of the Society of Engineering Science’s board of directors.
The organization’s leadership announced the results of the board election December 7.
“During my professional career, many of those in that very selective group of researchers leading SES used to be role models for me, and thus, I am quite pleased to join this distinguished group,” said Paulino, the Raymond Allen Jones Chair in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. “Thus, I am enthusiastically looking forward to continuing my association with SES as a member of its Board of Directors.”
The board and other elected leadership oversee the organization’s slate of technical meetings each year and its awards program, among other activities. Paulino said he hopes his new position will increase the organization’s visibility of Georgia Tech and encourage more researchers on campus to get involved with the group.
“I have always been interested in both engineering and science and in the confluence of those fields — in fact, most of my research is motivated by elements of both fields,” Paulino said. “In this sense, my involvement in the Society of Engineering Science is quite natural."
Paulino's election to the society's board is the second new leadership position he has assumed in recent months. Earlier this fall, Paulino also joined the board of the American Society of Civil Engineers' Engineering Mechanics Institute.
