Ph.D. student Michael Thomas has been selected for the 2023 Public Health Informatics Fellowship with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Thomas, who is pursuing a Ph.D. in Computational Science and Engineering, was chosen for this prestigious fellowship from a highly competitive pool. This year, only 17 candidates were chosen out of 140 applications.
During the two-year fellowship, Thomas will be working at the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases. Thomas will focus on data analysis and technology evaluation, specifically targeting infectious viral diseases.
After an extensive interview process with 10 host sites, Thomas was matched with the CDC’s Division of Viral Diseases. The Division aims to prevent viral diseases through optimized vaccine usage and efficient outbreak responses.
