Biography

Dr. Bozeman originally hails from Dayton, Ohio. His research began in energy development. After serving as an energy and environmental practitioner for over a decade in the public sector, he shifted his research to matters of social and environmental degradation (socioecological degradation).

Research

Dr. Bozeman is an industrial ecologist with research focusing on circularity, food-energy-water, and urbanization & buildings. He specializes in developing effective approaches, robust datasets, and practical policy proposals using core methodologies such as artificial intelligence/machine learning, life cycle assessment, and scenario analysis. As his courtesy appointment in the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School of Public Policy suggests, Dr. Bozeman’s research involves trans-disciplinary collaboration (collaborating with industry, government, community, and academia). He has previously published award-winning content with psychology and economic experts, with public health experts, and intends to continue addressing the complex and ‘wicked’ challenges of our time in this manner.

Teaching

Dr. Bozeman instructs undergraduate coursework on smart cities and introductory content involving the breadth of civil and environmental subject matter. He also instructs graduate coursework on industrial ecology.

IMS Funds New Research Initiatives

The Institute for Matter and Systems (IMS) at Georgia Tech has selected seven new interdisciplinary research initiatives to receive seed funding. This funding is part of the larger IMS effort to identify and support visionary leaders driving groundbreaking research and innovation.The funded initiatives come from four Colleges and 10 Schools across the Institute, and from GTRI. These initiative leads, including the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering’s Joe Bozeman, were selected based on their innovative approaches, potential impact, and alignment with IMS’ mission to push the boundaries of science and technology.
