Dr. Tang received BS degrees in Geology and Economics from Peking University (2003), and MS (2005) and PhD degrees (2008) in Geosciences from Stony Brook University.
She was a postdoc in environmental chemistry and microbial geochemistry at Harvard University before joining the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech in 2013. She started a courtesy position in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2018.
Her research focuses on the fundamentals and applications of molecular scale geochemical reactions at mineral-water interfaces in natural and engineered systems. She has published >80 papers and received >$8M research funding.
Molecular scale biogeochemical processes at solid-liquid interfaces involving metals, nutrients, and microbes, such as:
- Contaminant remediation and transport
- Elemental cycling
- Microbially mediated mineral formation and transformation
- Resource recovery
- Development and application of advanced synchrotron X-ray techniques
