A resolution in the decades-long fight over water among Alabama, Florida and Georgia could be on the horizon.
Atlanta TV station CBS46 reports lawyers involved in the case have said privately an agreement could be coming in the next year, thanks to a deadline set by the U.S. Supreme Court Special Master overseeing negotiations.
Much of the data helping inform talks over the shared water resources came from the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering’s Aris Georgakakos, who completed extensive modeling of the water flows earlier this year. His work led to a proposed consensus water management plan from a group of stakeholders.
In the video above, Georgakakos explains his work to CBS46’s Sally Sears and tells her there’s plenty of water flowing down the Chattahoochee River 85 percent of the time.
