The Atlanta chapter of WTS awarded the Helene M. Overly Memorial Scholarship to Ph.D. student Caroline Muhith.

WTS — originally known as Women’s Transportation Seminar — awards scholarships each year to help develop women who plan to pursue transportation careers and reward promising young engineers.

Muhith is in the first year of her graduate program in transportation engineering, working with professor Laurie Garrow and the Air Transportation Lab at Georgia Tech (ATL@GT). Muhith became involved with the WTS Heart of Texas chapter while pursuing a B.S. in civil engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. She currently serves as the secretary of the WTS Atlanta chapter and will be leading a traffic demand management project for the chapter this semester.

“I am interested in many sectors of transportation, including aviation, demand modeling, and sustainable transportation planning and hope to integrate and explore these interests during my time at Tech,” Muhith said.

She will now compete against other regional chapter winners for the national Overly scholarship, which will be awarded in May.

The Helene M. Overly Scholarship was established in 1981 to honor the first executive secretary of WTS for her dedicated service to the organization in public service, organizational abilities and a spirit of determination that helped WTS nearly double its membership in two years.
