Professor Laurie Garrow has joined the board of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, the largest professional group in operations research and analytics.
Garrow will serve as vice president for sections and societies, leading the Subdivisions Council that oversees regional and student chapters and other smaller units. The council has led the group’s diversity efforts, created ethics guidelines, and formulated new member benefits.
“I am honored to have been elected to the board of directors of INFORMS,” Garrow said. “I look forward to working with the board on upcoming initiatives, including an advocacy campaign and improving the experience of new members.”
Comprised of more than 12,000 members from 90 countries, the organization publishes 14 journals and has 165 different communities of members.
Georgia Tech is well represented on the new board. Members elected Pinar Keskinocak, a professor in the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, as the new board chair.
