Top 5: US News ranks civil and environmental engineering graduate programs among nation’s elite

U.S. News and World Report Graduate Program Rankings: Civil #4, Environmental #5

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering’s graduate programs remain among the five best in the United States, according to new rankings released March 16.

U.S. News and World Report lists the School’s civil engineering graduate program as No. 4 and the environmental engineering program at No. 5 in its 2017 rankings. That’s a flip from 2016 when civil was fifth and environmental fourth.

“I’m gratified that we continue to be regarded as one of the very top civil and environmental engineering programs in the country. It’s a direct reflection of the quality of our faculty, staff and students,” said Reginald DesRoches, professor and Karen and John Huff School Chair.

“This also serves as a testament to the high caliber of the graduates we’re sending out to change the world and who represent the outcome of our dedication to providing the very best education. We continue to invest in improving our students’ experiences so they can contribute solutions to the world’s most pressing problems.”

U.S. News rates master’s and Ph.D. programs each spring (undergraduate program rankings come out in the fall). The School’s civil engineering program has maintained a spot in the top six programs going back to at least 2003. Environmental engineering broke into the top six in 2009.

CEE’s programs join every other engineering graduate program at Georgia Tech in the top eight of their respective fields. It’s the fifth straight year all of Tech’s engineering programs have been in at least the top 10, a level of sustained excellence unmatched by any other university in the nation.
