Earthquake and tsunami expert Hermann Fritz traveled to Chile last week after a magnitude 8.4 earthquake off the coast.
The quake triggered tsunami warnings across the region, and residents felt dozens of aftershocks after the initial quake Wednesday night.
Fritz, an associate professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, talked with CNN Chile September 19 about the quake's impacts and the country's response. (Spanish-language video below.)
He is often among the first researchers called upon to travel to areas affected by earthquakes and tsunamis around the world. Keep up with his travels on Twitter @hermfritz.
