VIDEO: Watch Bonaparte’s Terzaghi Lecture

Professor of the Practice Rudy Bonaparte received the American Society of Civil Engineering Geo-Institute’s highest honor in 2018 when he was selected to deliver the Karl Terzaghi Lecture.

The Geo-Institute now has posted video of Bonaparte’s presentation, which focuses on reducing the failure rate of facilities that store solid waste, industrial by-products and other wastes.

Presented at the Geo-Institute’s annual conference, the lecture features a distinguished engineer each year who has made remarkable contributions to the field.

Bonaparte said at the time of his selection he was surprised by the invitation.

“The lineage of ASCE Terzaghi Lecturers includes some of the most distinguished academicians and practitioners in the history of the geotechnical engineering profession. I feel very fortunate — and humbled — to be included with this group of individuals.”

Along with teaching in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Bonaparte serves as chairman of the board of Geosyntec Consultants.

Bonaparte is the fourth faculty member from the School invited to deliver the Geo-Institute’s premier lecture. Carlos Santamarina gave the lecture in 2014, G. Wayne Clough in 1994, and George Sowers in 1979.
