Chris Shearer, a doctoral student student in civil engineering, was recently invited to present on his research in the field of ash research at the 2011 World of Coal Ash (WOCA) Conference, co-organized by The University of Kentucky's Center for Applied Energy Research (UK CAER) and The American Coal Ash Association (ACAA).
WOCA Conference, held in Denver, Colorado, focuses on the science, applications and sustainability of coal ash worldwide, as well as aspects of coal combustion products (CCP's) and gasification products. The conference includes a Student Presentation Award, sponsored by Midwest Coal Ash Association (MCAA) and chosen by a panel of judges based on an oral presentation and paper submission at the conference proceedings.
Judges at this year's conference decided to award two winners, Chris Shearer, of The Georgia Institute of Technology, and Nate Mauger, a student of The Ohio State University. Shearer and Mauger will each receive an engraved plaque and award of $500.00, as well as an invitation to submit a paper to The Coal Combustion and Gasification Products (CCGP) Journal.
