Every year, Georgia Tech's Center for Enhanced Teaching and Learning (CETL) invites a small, multidisciplinary group of associate professors to become Hesburgh Award Teaching Fellows. These faculty members are nominated for this honor by their college and meet throughout spring semester to discuss innovative ways to improve student learning and to strengthen teaching on the Georgia Tech campus. Teaching Fellows receive a small stipend ($1000) to implement a project to improve student learning in a course during the following summer or fall semester. On January 17, 2012, the CETL program named the following assocaite professors as the 2012 Hesburgh Teaching Fellows:
- Adjo Amekudzi (CEE)
- Frank Dellaert (COC)
- Nick Feamster (COC)
- Mike Goodisman (Biology)
- Narin Hassan (LCC)
- Koert Van Ittersum (COM)
- Deirdre Shoemaker (Physics)
- Donggang Yao (MSE)
- Alasdair Young (INTA)
Dr. Amekudzi earned her PhD in civil and environmental engineering from Carnegie Mellon University 
where she also earned a MS in civil infrastructure systems. She also holds an MS in civil engineering from Florida International University and a BS in civil engineering from Stanford University. Her research interests include infrastructure management, asset management, and sustainability planning and evaluation. Specifically, she studies systems problems within the integrated built and natural environments to improve decision making and to promote sustainable development. Her current research focuses on the development and application of sustainability planning and evaluation methods within built systems.
Professor Amekudzi is also involved in the development of educational materials to address these areas within the undergraduate and graduate curricula. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, all of which address the proper stewardship of infrastructure for sustainable development. In addition, she has published extensively on these subjects, serving on several professional boards and panels and contributing expert knowledge on issues related to civil infrastructure investment and management for sustainable development.
