Tuesday, 11 April 2023

Four faculty members have been recognized by students for their excellence in the classroom.

Each year, the Georgia Tech Center for Teaching and Learning honors instructors with exceptional response rates and scores on the Course Instructor Opinion Survey (CIOS). In particular, the awards recognize those who receive top scores in three scale items: instructor’s respect and concern for students, enthusiasm about teaching, and ability to stimulate interest in the subject matter. For 2022, the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering had four winning instructors:

Headshots of Baabak, Bozeman, Meyer, and Amekudzi-KennedyAssistant Professor Joe Bozeman and Professor of the Practice Fred Meyer were awarded the Student Recognition of Excellence in Teaching: Annual CIOS Award. Around 50 winners are selected Institute-wide based upon courses taught the previous semester. Each award winner receives a $1,000 stipend.

Frederick L. Olmstead Professor Adjo Amekudzi-Kennedy and Professor Baabak Ashuri were awarded the Student Recognition of Excellence in Teaching: Semester Honor Roll. This recognition is based on the same criteria used for the award. Instructors who meet the base criteria for 70 percent response rate and place in the top 25 percent of the composite CIOS scores for each class size group are eligible for recognition on the Honor Roll.
