Georgia Tech students have weighed in and six professors from the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering have been honored for their exceptional classroom skills.
Each year, the Georgia Tech Center for Teaching and Learning honors instructors with exceptional response rates and scores on the Course Instructor Opinion Survey (CIOS). In particular, the awards recognize those who receive top scores in three scale items: instructor’s respect and concern for students, enthusiasm about teaching, and ability to stimulate interest in the subject matter.
"This recognition is a testament to how much students appreciate our faculty and the quality of the instruction they provide," said Karen and John Huff School Chair and Professor Don Webster.
Professor Laurie Garrow was awarded the Student Recognition of Excellence in Teaching: Annual CIOS Award. Garrow is one of just 40 winners selected from across the Institute based upon courses taught in the Fall 2023 semester. Each award winner receives a $1,000 stipend provided by the Class of 1940 and Jack and Frances Mundy endowments.
Five CEE faculty members were awarded the Student Recognition of Excellence in Teaching: Semester Honor Roll:
- Professor Baabak Ashuri
- Professor Hermann Fritz
- Professor Eric Marks
- Professor of the Practice Fred Meyer
- Assistant Professor Ryan Sherman
The Honor Roll recognition is based on the same criteria used for the award. To be eligible, instructors must have a 70 percent response rate and place in the top 25 percent of the composite CIOS scores for each class size group. Each honored faculty remember receives a certificate from the Center for Teaching and Learning recognizing their accomplishment.
